 “What is ugly is depicted in horror as monstrous and uncontrollable: a thinly veiled motif for the marginalized. Where ugliness is broad, beauty is a thin, imperceptible line. Beauty’s tentacles reach through literature, film, and policy. In sci-fi and horror alike, a person can achieve beauty through magic, but its consequences reveal the Scooby-Doo style trap that beauty sets.”
